Alternative energy sources

I was reading the Times newspaper the other day and I saw that Venezuela’s president had said that if there’s any action against Iran, then Middle England will have to stop using their cars. So, our over reliance on oil has now been used as a tool to threaten us with, I’d wondered how long it would take.

As much as it’s up to the government to develop alternative energy sources to oil, it’s up to the people to lead them. The government won’t shift until it’s forced to, which makes sense, in an “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” kind of way. But in this, there’s no choice but action, what’s needed is the people to lead the way, to try to stop using our cars without need and to try to stop wasting energy.

What’s amusing is the thought of the sheer panic that it would cause in the Treasury if everyone actually bought and used a bike!

Here in the US, there are various boycotts going around, trying to get people not to use Exxon/Mobil, or not buying gas on certain days, etc. I haven’t heard if these have had any impact. Rambling Taoist wrote about Sweden the other day, that country has announced it will try to be completely on alternative fuels by 2025.

They’ve tried it here with consumer goods, “Buy Nothing Day”

The problem with not buying on a certain day is that you have to use it anyway, so that actual amount you buy is the same. The only way for us to make a real difference is to take steps to reduce our usage overall.
