Not so different

I found this story to be very interesting indeed.  It’s a tenet of quite a few religions that humanity is somehow special, created by a God, maybe even in the image of that God.  As someone who accepts Evolution, I really don’t buy into that idea, and I’ve not seen anything that even begins to convince me otherwise.

When we have a story like this it casts doubt on that idea of divine origin, but it’s not the first time something like this has been observed, and not just in Chimpanzees but also in Elephants.  So, it seems that the observational evidence is mounting in favour of the idea that we are simply another animal species,  sometimes better and often worse than those who walk on all fours.  But the mounting evidence that we are part of the animal kingdom isn’t a bad thing, it offers us the chance to reassess who we are and also how we approach the world.  I also think that does offer us a certain quiet dignity.
